July 18:  Another cornflake breakfast and we were
ready to get off the ferry around 10:00 and head to
Pompeii.  Around 20,000 people lived there at the
time of the volcanic eruption.  Around 2,000 to 2,500
died from the fumes, ash, and flying rocks.  It was a
sea port but now is more than 2 miles from the sea
because of deposits from the eruption.
